·     Steve F. Krar co-founded the Advanced Technology Think Tank in 1962 (over 50 years ago) with a small group of technology educators. His vision was to provide a casual atmosphere where ideas could be shared and technology could be explored. Steve has had a renowned career dedicated to technology, education, publishing, manufacturing and youth. A summary of his past includes:

  • 21 years teaching machine trades and Director of Technology in Ontario.
  • 10 years on the technical teacher training summer staff, Ontario College of Education, University of Toronto.

·      Mr. Krar has been coordinator of a group of 30 authors who, over the past 50 years, have written or co-written 80 books (Machine Tool, Manufacturing Technology, and Lean Manufacturing principles) with translations in four languages; total circulation over 1,000,000 copies sold to date

·     Mr. Krar has written 80 magazine and newspaper articles on technical education and Machine Tool and Manufacturing Technology for number of Educational and Industrial magazines with circulation of over 1,000,000 readers.

  • Rated as one of the top technical/technology author teams in the world.
  • Educational Chairman of the Ontario Vocational Education Association for 6 years.
  • Set up and coordinated 25 technological courses for educators with industries in the United States and Canada.
  • 49 years of educational and industrial research with emphasis on Machine Tools and Manufacturing Technology.
  • Associate Director of the Partnership for Manufacturing Productivity program, an alliance of community college, technical institute, and university instructors.
  • 2 years, consultant to the National Tooling and Machining Association developing curriculum and teacher upgrading.
  • A member of the American Technical Education Association's "National Advisory Council on Technical Education".
  • A member of the Ontario Government Commission‑‑"Vision 2000" to update community college technological programs.
  • A Life Member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Manufacturing Technology Consulting Editor, Industrial Press; Associate Editor. Advanced Manufacturing magazine; Associate Editor Shop Talk magazine.
  • Hosted an annual Advanced Technology Think Tank for the past 47 years to which leading technical specialists from around the world are invited to present and discuss new manufacturing technology and its future effects on education and industry.
  • Sept/Oct. 1993, World Bank Computer Numerical Control project at Shandong Training Center in Zibo, China.
  • 1959 – Present: Visited numerous industries and attended many seminars to stay current with the constantly-changing technological world.
  • 1987–1994, member and chairman of the Machine Tool Trades Advisory Committee Niagara College, St. Catharines, ON.
  • 1987-1995, educational consultant for GE Super-abrasives, Worthington, OH, developing programs for super-abrasive tools.
  • 1991 – International Assignment – Asked to visit Yueyang University in China in October for a Machine/ Manufacturing Technology project sponsored by the Canadian International Development Agency.
  • 2000 - Researching Cyber Management Systems at Mazak Corp., Florence, KY
  • 2001 and 2003 – Research assignments in Switzerland regarding Nanotechnology and the Environment.
  • 2002 - El Salvador research – Journalist tour re attracting foreign manufacturers.
  • 2002 - One week in Switzerland researching Micro and Nanotechnology.
  • 2004 - Presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Federated Press.
  • 2004 - Incorporated “The Productivity Development Center”, to provide Web-based self-teaching courses on all the pillars of Lean Manufacturing to anyone in the world.
  • 2004 - March - Conducted an Advanced Manufacturing magazine seminar at the Canadian High Technology Show on Flexible Manufacturing Systems, including Manufacturing Cells, and Multi-Tasking machines to 70 people in Toronto, ON
  • 2004 - September - Conducted a seminar on Total Productive Maintenance at the 3rd Annual Creating a 21st Century Maintenance Organization conference, sponsored by Federated Press, to about 40 people in Toronto, ON
  • 2004 - November - Invited by the State of Virginia, along with 10 journalists from the US, England, and Canada to report on the progress of their nanotechnology initiative in Research Centers, Universities, and Industrial Laboratories.
  • 2005 - Guest speaker and panel member at the official opening of the new Sheridan College Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Brampton, ON.
  • 2005 - Guest speaker and panel member of the Manufacturing Town Hall session at the Canadian Manufacturing Technology Show in Toronto, ON.
  • 2006 - A member of a journalist tour of Switzerland researching Robotics, Mechatronics, and Automated Systems.
  • 2007 - Formed the PDC Internet University to pass along free technology knowledge to the world.
  • 2007- Appointed to the Editorial Board for the Welland Tribune (the local newspaper) to write bi-monthly columns on science, technology and modern-day manufacturing.
  • 2009 - Inducted into the Canadian Manufacturing Hall of Fame at ceremonies at St. Clair College in Windsor on March 31, 2009.
  • 2012 – Celebrated the 50th Consecutive ATTT at Barry’s Bay Ontario – The Advanced Technology Think Tank is a group I founded 50 years ago.
  • 2012 - Nominated for the Order of Ontario.
